Following the ruling of the Zionist regime court to expel Palestinians from the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem, the residents of Sheikh Jarrah revolted against the Zionist forces, which resulted in the wounding of 300 people. On May 9, 2021 the Zionist regime's police attacked Al-Aqsa Mosque, after which Hamas, Qassam Brigades and Islamic Jihad battalions targeted the important cities of Israel, including Tel Aviv, Haifa, Ashdod, Ashkelon, etc. The operation, known as the "Sword of Al-Quds," began on May 9, 2021 and Israel retaliated by bombing Gaza and killing innocent people. After 12 days on May 20, 1400, the Zionist regime surrendered under the pressure of widespread resistance attacks and reached a ceasefire.
The Zionists left the battlefield with the Palestinian resistance, but were eventually forced to give assurances to the resistance groups to stop their aggression in the Sheikh Jarrah area. In this regard, Osama Hamdan, a senior member of the Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement, stressed: "The Hamas movement has received assurances from the Zionist regime through intermediaries that it will stop the aggression in Gaza and refrain from aggression in Sheikh Jarrah and Al-Aqsa Mosque."
From the beginning of the conflict until May 20, 2021 Palestinian resistance groups fired more than 4,100 rockets of various types into the occupied territories, in which about 1,800 rockets successfully hit Israeli targets by passing through Israeli air defense systems. Israeli fighter jets also carried out more than 2,000 airstrikes against various parts of Gaza. The number of rocket attacks in the 8-day war in Gaza in 2012 was close to 1,000 rockets, which has quadrupled in the recent 11-day war.
